Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.

Sleningford Slalom

Sleningford Slalom was yet another great success for Leeds Canoe Club, and we walked away with a grand total of 8 prizes! Here's a 'brief' overview of what happened:

Some of us die-hard party goers turned up early on the Friday night (i.e. the ones with nothing better to do - or in our case the ones who thought it might take more than a few hours to put up the tent). Tent erect before nightfall befell us (success!), and then it was fun and frolics around Curly's van till around half past 3. Needless to say the next morning was a morning of regret, with the 'Walk of Shame' to the toilet block to scrub off the marker pen that had somehow appeared all over our face and body.

After sobering up a bit it was time to get kit on and wait our turns for the slalom. There were many people taking part in the individual events as well as the popular Topo Dup competition; Gavin & Jeanie, Mick & Andy R (Bambi!), Becki & Curly, Jonathan & Alice, AP & Andrea (Halifax CC). Unfortunately nobody won a prize....although Alice and Jonathan Dempsey (tall, blonde hair, smells - make sure you harass him in the bar) SWAM!!

Saturday night was hog roast - 6 foot of pure pig (minus the apple), followed by a more relaxed evening and early nights for many.

Overall the winners were:

Paul Clements - 1st mens Div 4 K1 (J14)
Becki Hood - 2nd ladies Div 4 K1 (promoted)

Gill - 1st ladies Div 4 K1 (promoted)
Sarah - 3rd ladies Div 4 K1 (promoted)
Jeanie - 4th ladies Div 4 K1 (promoted)

Andy R - 1st mens Div 3 K1 (J18)
Leigh Andrews (Girly Leigh) - 2nd junior Div 4 K1
Mick - 3rd mens Div 4 K1 (promoted)
Andy Hall - 2nd mens Div 4 C1 (not bad to say he'd never even sat in one of those boats before)

So a big well done to all. However we would like to give some awards of our own to certain individuals, whose 'talents' lie outside of paddling...

Lazy Sod Award - awarded Sam, who sat on his backside and played on the playstation all weekend.

Arthritic Old Man Award - awarded to Nick Clements, who went home on Saturday to avoid camping in the cold weather.

Mother Goose Award - awarded to Curly, for cooking us all breakfast on both days (bless his cotton socks)

Social Bunny Award - awarded to Ben, who, concerned with the lack of drunken idiots in the LCC camp, went on a quest to find new people he could annoy in other camps (and then couldnt find his way back to his tent).

Drunken Fool Award - awarded to Sam, again, who tripped over the guide ropes twice, upon the second time failed to get up again and slept where he lay (and was consequently attacked with felt tip pen).

Clumsy Oaf Award- awarded to Mick, who tripped over the BBQ (?) and spilt Becki's drink all over her sleeping bag.

Finally, we'd like to say we cant wait for next year, where all those who got a promotion can paddle Div 3...and win more prizes!!!
