Aire Waves

Leeds Canoe Club Blog. We paddle... lots!
Airewaves used to be Leeds Canoe Club's magazine letting people know what the club was upto. Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.

Even snowmen like to canoe!

With a fair amount of snow about on Sunday a few of us went to the park to play. Something I've always wanted to do since buying my first kayak was to take it out in the snow and see how fast it'll go! So that was exactly what we did!!

After tying the kayak to the car, and nearly loosing it along the way, we finally got to the park, and tried out the smaller slopes. It didn't go too fast at first, and we discovered that the more people we piled on, the faster it would go. After 3 of us on climbing on the kayak, we managed to get quite a bit of speed and were ready to hit the big slopes!

After our mini practice we were all up for tying out the big slop and me and Gib decided the be brave and give it a go first... We got up so much speed I couldn't stop screaming, and all I could see was the pavement at the bottom which we were flying towards at what felt like vertically down hill - A very scary moment! Gib managed to put his feet down and stop us before we hit the bottom, to which I own him my life - thank you! We decided that this slope was FAR too steep, and moved across to a section which didn't have the near vertical drop at the bottom, but still involved us taking off near the end! We took it in turns in 2's and 3's and had a great laugh! We even made a snowman, who wanted to join in the fun (see pic) so we sent him down the slopes to his tragic death - sorry snowy!. A fantastic day out in the snow :o)
