Leeds Canoe Club Blog. We paddle... lots!
Airewaves used to be Leeds Canoe Club's magazine letting people know what the club was upto. Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.
Sunday 28th October - Sowerby Bridge site of Halifax canoe club.
I spotted a bird on the bank, it was unusual as it was yellow and wagged its tail. I asked Ian if he new anything about bird watching, he claimed to be an expert a

nd I was reliably informed that it was a grey wagtail. A little off the mark, I thought but was reliably informed that the Yellow wagtail was rare, so it couldn't have been one of those. Ok so the guy's probably an expert, with a passion for the wildlife. I didn't realize how much this passion had absorbed him until after we did the first drop down the weir. He paddled the drop no problem until he spotted a rare breed of duck, apparently only differentiated from a standard duck by a small mark on its underside. Its must have been rare as further investigation seemed important and a speedy eject was required. Sadly it was just a common duck.
His misses, Sylvia also swam, but not due to wildlife, this time the lucky nose clip had become detached and the back up hand brace also proved unsuccessful.
Other swims were abundant I believe that amongst this days group we have a new title holder in the making, some one to take my lead and become the club swim champion. Go Hugh.
A good day, none of the swims would have happened if the group hadn't been pushing themselves, so although the group left wet they also left better kayakers. The only thing missing now is the ability to find a good excuse, enhance it and broadcast it before anyone else does.
