Aire Waves
Leeds Canoe Club Blog. We paddle... lots!
Airewaves used to be Leeds Canoe Club's magazine letting people know what the club was upto. Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.

There were a couple of swims in div4 (but to be kind i'll leave them nameless) though i should also mention that i swam at gate 2 in the c1 on sunday.

The river Liffey in Dublin is 18 miles of mainly flat water paddling with 11 weirs, 2 long portages and a mile of upstream paddling at the start! 12 of us from LCC where there.
For some it was their 4th liffey, and for some their first. This years trip started at 3am for some to get the early ferry on thursday to maximise drinking time, for the rest it was the afternoon ferry on thusday or one on friday.
As can be seen from the photos there was considerably more drinking than paddling.
A few highlights from the trip:

Andy & Jonathan getting recognition from the race starter for being one of the very few canadians taking the risky (and more fun) left line on straffan wier at the start in front of the large crowds

Steve H continuing his quest for another swimmer of the year award with 3 swims from the wavehopper (we had predicted so many more!)

The live band's singer dueting with Eddie for a version of Oasis's don't look back in anger was unforgetable (or should that be unforgivable?)
After that performance more guiness was in desperate need
The mysterious disappearence of all the topo drain bungs
Andy & Jonathan in the canadian surviving all 11 weirs and not swimming! Unbelievable but true!

It had rained a bit south of manchester, so the river Goyt was flowing at a good level making the Marple slalom course a bit more challenging on saturday than it was back in july.
But this didn't stop LCC winning more slalom medals, with Gill taking 2nd place in div3 ladies.
