Aire Waves

Leeds Canoe Club Blog. We paddle... lots!
Airewaves used to be Leeds Canoe Club's magazine letting people know what the club was upto. Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.

Loch Tay to Perth, Openboat, at one with Nature

This week I've been mainly paddling the river Tay in Scotland, in an open boat at one with nature.

During the many hours of paddling we came across various birds and wildlife that make being in the wild as good as it is, on this occasion none of the following tried to sink me (except for the fish, item 13)

1) Oyster chasers, looks like the offspring of a penguin and a stork.

2) Seagulls

3) Some pigeons.

4) A bird that looks a bit like a wag tail but no tail waggling

5) A small grey river bird

6) An owl

7) That bird that's not a stork

8) Some big flying killing birds that were too fast to get better descriptions other than triangular tails.

9) A finch.

10) Duck Jesus.

11) Some wild deer on the water side, that had gone, by the time I’d gained fellow paddlers Dave Joy's attention. Dave...... DAVE...... DAVE..... DAVE.................. DAVE DEER........oh it's gone.

12) Six million hungry baby leeches.

13) A trout or a salmon (not both).

The after effects of being covered in six million baby leeches

One injury occurred (following a nasty Thistle incident).

To avoid a rumoured Grade 3 rapid which had no portage potential, we took to a mill Leat, this dried up, following a breach in the wall.

The above was taken seconds after creature 13's failed attempt at scuppering my line.

More later when I get some time, hope you can wait that long.
